,That's a line from High School Music, but yes, it is a new year! Some new things at Wheeler as well as some old favorites. We have a new principal, Mr. Paul Gillihan and what I have seen and heard from him, I am very impressed with his leadership and deep caring for the students. We also have a new special ed department lead, Mrs. Lori Barger, who has jumped in wholeheartedly to manage the sometimes unmanageable group of special educators, scheduling whatever other magic that happens on a daily basis. Our administrator for the special education department is Mrs. Pam McCabe; she, however is not new. But if you are reading this Mrs. McCabe, you are FABULOUS!
I am in the same room, 1055 and from what I know, have 5 returning students and 2 new freshmen coming. Total of 7, 2 boys and 5 girls. I will be sending home all of the forms for you on the first day, so ignore the forms tab on this blog, However you can take a look at the supply list. Look up to the top and click on the supplies/forms tab. No rush to get the supplies in. Try to find the best sales! You can send in the items over the first 10 days. However........Please return the forms as soon as possible!!! If you would like to send a note or pictures about what your child did over the summer, that would be great so that we can share. I had a very balanced fun and productive summer. I went on a 7 day cruise to Cozumel, Haiti and Jamaica with my 3 grown children. While there, we rode jet skis, snorkeled, swam with dolphins, rode horseback in the surf and had an overall wonderful time. Once back, I poured myself into my masters program that I am working on in special education and kept myself on pace to finish by November. I'm very excited about this upcoming year and look forward to seeing your children's smiling faces on August 1st. Ms. Rich

This year our intellectual disability classes are using the Unique Learning System. It is a wonderful differentiated curriculum that is aligned to meet state extended standards. It also provides materials to use for functional life skills. This month’s chapter book is about a family visiting an amusement park. The unit highlights physical science, providing lessons on force and motion as applied to amusement park rides. The past week we have graphed the students’ favorite rides, read a pie chart depicting the concession stand sales and divided snacks equally on trays to work on multiplication. We also worked on using Touchpoints to add, paying to the next dollar and how to handle frustration.
